Charles Arthur Floyd was a bandit boy
He was an outlaw by trade
He came down from Oklahoma
It's been 79 years and a day

He used to work in town
But it didn't pay much
And he was too restless a soul

He was way too proud a man
To spend his life on the payroll
So together with a friend he got a wild ambition
And tried to change his life
On a misty morning, with an old shotgun
In 1925

With Pretty Boy Floyd tonight

Well, it was his first time, but when Floyd got caught
They sent him on down to the pen
Four long years in the jailhouse
While his wife and kids were eating sand

After a year or two, things juts got too tough
His lady couldn't hold on no more
So, while Charlie cried in the jailhouse,
She went out to look for other shores

And when Charlie got out, he didn't have a dime
Just a big hole in is heart
He tried his best to find a job
But always ended in a cop car

After a little while living a hopeless life
Rambling from town to town
He bought himself a suit and a brand new gun
Did a few banks and tunred his luck around

Within a few more years, he'd been all over the place
Yeah but the cops were never too far
But he always kept one step ahead:
Soon, Pretty Boy became a running star...
Sayin' : " Send your dogs out after me,
I ain't never been scared of a hound !"

They shot him down in a cornfield
Laid him 6 feet in the ground
